Swear to god

Hey but look oh my god, she said
I'm hetero as fuck
Poor boys prancing
Big dicks waggling at me
I promise, she said
Come here baby girl
I'm not going to eat you

A classic Ani Smith piece articulating all her themes (sex, fear, alienation, a young child woman, suggestions of deviant desire), in one concise package. I look forward to Ani stretching out and tackling, well, something else. She has created an intriguing internet persona, with her interviews which don't answer questions, assumption of shyness, minimalism and shows obvious intelligence and craft in her work, but still I am left feeling that there is something missing. An artist must take genuine risks, challenge their own boundaries and I fear Ani has settled into a comfortable groove. Than again writing such a long comment in such an obscure of the net should say something about the genuine respect I have for her and her work and my complete confidence in her ability to solve this conundrum without my (or anyone else's) assistance. Perhaps add a little colour, Ani, a splash of yellow maybe,

I read this as: so you are going to eat me.

I'm not scared.

Paul: Thanks for paying attention, Paul. It's sweet and your perception of me is interesting to me (for obvious reasons). Feedback of any kind is so often so cursory and laden with extraneous shit, it's important to hear something that seems thoughtful.

Samantha: Please don't apologise, I appreciated it very much. I think you got some of what I was trying to say and interpreted it in your own way, which is awesome. Don't be embarrassed or apologise unless you feel that 'wasn't really you' -I don't know if you know what I mean.

Ellie: Have you noticed how we so often say the opposite of what we mean?

These are like poems that a suicidal girl gets tattooed down her spine.

I mean that in a good way. If there is a good way.

I can imagine, 'i am a juggernaut of apathy' across a set of shoulder blades.

'I'm not going to eat you' the last line printed on a belly.

You've made me wrong.
